Cooper ruptures her cruciate
Cooper, the 8 year old Rottweiler, came into the clinic in November 2006 to check her left hind leg. Earlier in the year she had been exercising in the back yard and became lame all of a sudden. She seemed to get better but slowly started getting worse, and had been particularly bad over the previous few months, to the point where she was favouring the leg almost all of the time.
Blizzard's reconstructive surgery
Blizzard, the 3 year old Samoyed, first visited our clinic in May 2006 after having an unfortunate altercation with a motor vehicle. Luckily for him the only injuries he sustained were some deep cuts on his right hind foot which required stitches. However at the time we noticed that he had quite a lump on the very top of his head. A fine needle aspiration was taken of the lump at the time of the surgery, where we attempted to draw out some cells from the lump to look at under the microscope to get an idea of what it was. Unfortunately all we got was lots of red blood cells, which is not useful in trying to come to a diagnosis.
Maggie's cancer problem
Maggie is an Australian cattle dog who has previously had operations performed on both of her hind legs due to cruciate ligament damage. After having problems with both of her hind legs, her owners were very worried when she became lame on her right fore leg. To begin with, when coming in to the vet for regular checks, nothing could be detected on physical examination of Maggie, but after being intermittently lame for several months she began to develop a swelling in her leg, just above her carpus, or wrist. Maggie required x-rays to find out what the problem was.

Sooti's case of laryngeal paralysis
"Sooti" is a long term patient at Prospect Road Veterinary Hospital. She is a beautiful 13 year old german short haired pointer who lives with a younger more boisterous 4 year old german short haired pointer who shares none of "Sooti"'s poise and calm demeanour. Sooti had had an ongoing but mild cough since being boarded that responded to antibiotics. At that stage, it was thought that she may have had Canine Cough. In August 2002 however, the owner also noticed that her bark had changed and the gagging cough remained.

Lucky Harry finds home after an adventure out
Harry is one very lucky and very adventurous Bull Terrier Cross. He is lucky because he has a wonderful family and is fortunate to have an identification microchip! You see, recently one of our clients, Gillian found a Bull Terrier Cross. This happy wandering fellow was by himself in the middle of a roundabout on a busy road. Gillian brought him in to see us as she thought the owners may contact local vet hospitals when they discovered their dog was missing.
The Life of Pedro
Pedro was picked from the Animal Welfare League way back in October 1992 as a 10 week old puppy. He was covered in wounds and scars and was apparently not treated well by his previous owner. He was a very naughty and adventurous little puppy and was named Pedro because he had big floppy ears and looked a little like a Mexican when he wore large hats.
